Pool / Pocket Billiards |

This is a big passion in my life right now. I'll admit that I really got into playing pool
after the movie "The Color of Money" came out. It hit me hard like a lead weight, and I grew
such a passion for it I had to play it nearly every day. I was in highschool at the time, and
I would go straight to the local pool hall nearly every day after classes got out. Fortunately the pool industry was booming from the movie and a brand new pool hall called "Boomers" opened only 7 or 8 minutes from my house in Wilmington, MA. It was a HUGE hall with 30 or so tables. It was very clean and brightly lit, and a very friendly environment, not like the dungy types of places you mostly find today. It had 20 foot high ceilings and was so well lit that lamps were not even needed above each table. That place had the best lighting of any hall I have ever been to. I played for years at that place. I entered many 9-ball tournaments and won enough times to pay for a decent cue stick, and a cue case. Unfortunately, because that establishment couldn't sell alcohol of any kind (because of the town ordinance) it did eventually close it's doors and shut down for good. It was a really sad time, but I honestly wasn't going as much as I used to because of college. I stopped playing all together after I began studying at Northestern University in Boston, MA. I would play a very occasional game here and there, but for the most part I wasn't really playing seriously at all anymore. It wasn't until the last few months (summer of 2004) I began really getting back into the game. Since I moved down to Florida I have been looking for business opportunities and saw a deal on a Pool Hall that I couldn't pass up. If all things go well I will be running my own Pool Hall January First 2005. Since then my passion for the game has been re-kindled and I have been playing again almost every day. My goal is to finish what I started so many years ago and get to a level that I feel very satisified with. I don't have and delusions of fame and fortune but I definately want to get to an A level of performance and enter (and hopefully win) some big league tournaments down the road. |
